CHARLESTON, SC - The Sustainable Charleston Awards were announced
at the Planning for Prosperity Growth Forum held on April 29.
A partnership of the Chamber's Developers Council and the Master
of Environmental Studies Student Association (MESSA) from the
College of Charleston, the Sustainable Charleston Awards Program
recognizes and promotes businesses or organizations that successfully
balance community development, growth management and environmental
stewardship.
In attendance to honor the award recipients were S.C. Governor
Mark Sanford, Charleston Mayor Joe Riley, and numerous government
and business leaders from across the Southeastern US.
The 2004 Overall Achievement Award was given to J.W. Aluminum
in recognition of significant environmental and community stewardship
in the areas of Energy Efficiency, Procurement Practices, Product
Development, Quality of Workplace Life, waste Emission/Reduction
and Water Conservation.
Palladio Homes received the 2004 Product Development Award
in recognition of significant achievement and community stewardship
in the area of Product Development. The first program of its kind
in the Southeast, Sustainable Charleston provides recognition
of initiatives by area businesses and industries that result in
significant environmental and community stewardship. Sustainable
Charleston has designated seven award classifications, including:
Energy Efficiency, Procurement Practices, Product Development,
Quality of Workplace Life, Transportation Alternatives, Waste
/ Emission Reduction and Water Conservation. To learn more visit

With more than 2,500 members, the Charleston Metro Chamber of
